“Strict like a ‘bossy CEO’ — he makes you repeat everything until you get it right. But behind the stern exterior, he genuinely cares.”

Who is Hossam?
“There is no life with despair … and no despair with life.”
Hossam “Joba” Alamrawy is a passionate SDI dive instructor based in Dahab, on the shores of the Red Sea. For years he has been sharing his love for the ocean with students from all over the world — from complete beginners taking their first breath underwater to certified divers exploring the legendary Blue Hole and Canyon.
His philosophy is simple: diving is not just a skill, it's a way of life. Every dive teaches something new, and every student is welcomed like family. With Hossam you don't just learn to dive — you laugh, you grow, and you fall in love with the ocean.
He teaches in English, Chinese (中文) and Arabic, and is especially loved by his Chinese-speaking students from 小红书 (RedNote).

What students say
29 real reviews from Hossam's students on 小红书 (RedNote) — strict, safe and truly caring.

“Strict like a ‘bossy CEO’ — he makes you repeat everything until you get it right. But behind the stern exterior, he genuinely cares.”

“He has personally dived below 120 meters. Humorous in daily life, rigorous and patient when teaching.”

“First dive, afraid of water — my instructor stayed right behind me, protecting me the whole time.”

“Water-phobic and almost quit on day three. Most importantly, my instructor was right beside me — I fully trusted he could help at any moment.”

“A normal check dive is 30–40 minutes — he took me for 71 minutes.”
“Open Water + Advanced in 5 days / 15 dives. Hossam is super patient, but he drilled my mask-removal skill until I nailed it.”
“SDI AOW — Blue Hole, Canyon and night dives. I call him ‘恩师’ — my mentor.”

“The moment my ears equalized felt amazing — like the silent, sunlit underwater world suddenly switched on and opened up to me!”
“Day one: ear-pressure trouble and nausea — but it got better and better. A genuinely positive experience.”

“Severe water-phobia and I can't swim. OW+AOW double cert for 300€ — free extra training and 1-on-1 debriefs after every dive.”
“Strict, professional and caring. The theory exam is genuinely hard — you really have to study.”

“The military academy of the diving world. On the last dive Hossam hurt his ear but still dragged all three of us safely back to shore — with injured hands.”

“With Hossam, I didn't just learn to dive — he even cured my sinus and ear problems.”

“1-on-1 for 400€. I struggled with mask clearing for three days — he never rushed. Final dive at the Blue Hole, plus a graduation gift.”
“Theory lessons are clear and easy to understand — not just reading from a script.”

“He is the most responsible instructor — while others left after dives, he kept giving us private coaching on what to improve.”
“5 days O+A plus 2 fun dives. He is an instructor who truly loves diving.”
“I already had ~50 dives. He found the root cause of my chronic ear-pressure problem that no one else had solved.”
“OW+AOW 1-on-2 for 270€. Strict, serious, but not scary. On the last day Hossam said: ‘This guy made me crazy.’”
“I had stomach problems during the course — Hossam took me to the clinic and paid the bill himself. 14 full dives in 5 days.”

“SDI Advanced Adventure Diver. Professional, safe and steady — even in current.”

“Very responsible and professional — you never have to worry about your safety.”

“Already had 50 fun dives without a cert — finally got certified in Dahab. Bossy, funny, strict. Really, really good.”

“I had my first emergency ascent during training — he calmly brought me back up. STOP → BREATHE → THINK → ACT.”

“The most responsible instructor I have ever seen — not the pay-and-get-a-cert type. If you can't meet his standards, you keep practicing in shallow water.”

“He brings headache medicine and vitamins, free orange juice every evening, pizza after late theory sessions — and films everything with his DJI.”

“OW at Fish & Friends. Tough and not much talk — from theory to practice, every detail builds a slow, steady sense of safety.”

“OW+AOW with Hossam and Mohammad. Both instructors are professional, patient and responsible.”

“O+A for 400€ in 5 days / 10 dives. The instructor is super nice and technically rock-solid.”

Special diving trips
A journey through history — one of the Red Sea's most famous wrecks.
The SS Thistlegorm is a British armed merchant ship built in Sunderland, England, in 1940. During World War II, she carried military supplies for British forces, including trucks, motorcycles, ammunition, aircraft equipment, railway equipment, and two LMS Stanier Class 8F steam locomotives.
On October 6, 1941, the Thistlegorm was attacked by German aircraft while anchored in the Red Sea. Two bombs struck the area around Hold No. 4, where ammunition was stored, causing a massive explosion that broke the ship apart and sank her. Today, more than 80 years later, the Thistlegorm remains one of the Red Sea's most famous historic wrecks.
Explore the interior and cargo holds, where many original military vehicles, motorcycles, equipment, ammunition, and other wartime supplies remain.
Explore the exterior of the wreck, including the bow, stern, guns, ship structure, explosion area, scattered wartime cargo, and the two steam locomotives.
After the Thistlegorm dives, the day can continue with a third dive at Ras Mohammed National Park, one of the Red Sea's most famous reef areas.
The Thistlegorm is not simply a dive site. It is a real World War II historical site. Please maintain good buoyancy control. Do not touch, remove, or disturb anything on the wreck. We dive it today so future generations can experience its history tomorrow.
